Hrithik announces sequel!

Source: Subhash K Jha; November 9, 2004

Just back from performing in Hong Kong, Hrithik Roshan finally reveals that his next film will be a sequel to Koi... Mil Gaya !

Is there a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya on the anvil?

Yes, finally after 8-9 long months Dad (Rakesh Roshan) has finalized a script that will be three times as big as Koi..Mil Gaya! He always does this: after Kaho Na..Pyar Hai he made a film that was twice as big! It'd make life simpler for all of us if he'd just make something more manageable. But of course there's no fun and challenge in that, is there?

So what is this new film going to be?

We needed to take on a bigger challenge. That's what my Dad is doing in his next. And it's scaring the hell out of both of us! It's going to be an even bigger risk than Koi..Mil Gaya. It's going to go forward from where the first left off. It won't have the same alien characters like Jadoo.

It will be the story of what happens to Rohit after the alien Jadoo gives him supernatural powers and goes away. It isn't really a sequel as such. Dad got an idea and it just seemed to flow from Koi..Mil Gaya. We aren't making Part II of that film. It's a challenging idea and a humongous risk! Compared to this film, Koi..Mil Gaya was a baby step. The new film will be shot in Singapore, India and New Zealand.

Will it have lots of special effects?

Even more than Koi..Mil Gaya! It's the biggest film we've produced so far. But let me add, we aren't consciously trying to get bigger with each film. We're doing what we think is right. Just like Koi..Mil Gaya, this film will take me into a realm where no leading man from Indian cinema has ever been.

Have you been growing your hair for this film?

Yeah, I tried the new look for myself. Now I've decided to use that look in this film. Rohit in Koi..Mil Gaya was the most challenging role of my career. But just facing up to the challenge was so exciting, it never felt like hard work. I hope the same thing happens with this film. True, I give 100 percent to all my roles. But sometimes it works out better than others.

When do you begin?

In March 2005, for a start-to-finish schedule. So far the principal actors are signed. Besides me and Priyanka Chopra there's Rekha and Naseeruddin Shah. We need to finalize another actress to play Priyanka's best friend.

,b>What will it be called?

The title hasn't been finalized. But obviously it will have a 'K' in it. I guess until Dad runs out of 'K' words in the dictionary, we'll have K-titles.

Have you signed on anything else?

Nothing yet. I've been looking at scripts. But nothing really appeals enough to sign on. There're talks about other films. But as of now, Dad's film is my only assignment.

From superstar to Superman!

After considering various options, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan selected Priyanka Chopra as the lead for his next film opposite son Hrithik.

Speaking from Hong Kong, where he is negotiating with eminent technicians for the proposed special effects and hi-tech equipment for the ‘sequel’, Rakesh Roshan confirmed that he has “signed Priyanka for my next untitled thriller to commence shooting by March next year.”

Incidentally, his sci-fi thriller Koi Mil Gaya, to which this next film is said to be a sequel, has completed its 50-week run. Several rumors of the story of the film are around.

One is the new film would depict that Preity Zinta and Hrithik Roshan’s characters have passed away leaving their son (Hrithik Roshan) in the care of his grandmother (Rekha).

Sources say that in the sequel, Hrithik’s character endowed with ‘superhuman powers and mind-boggling special effects.

Chopra is believed to be thrilled at having bagging this coveted role opposite Hrithik under the direction of Rakesh Roshan.

Hrithik’s Sci-Fi Sequel ‘sexed up’ with Priyanka!

Source: Express India

With Hrithik Roshan going the Aamir Khan way (read: super selective) and reluctant to be tied down with many new film commitments, it has made a lot of makers restless (read: upset). But once HR makes his new film announcement public, the fans will certainly stop complaining. After a zillion denials, amidst rumours, that a sequel to ‘Koi Mil Gaya’ was in the offing, the news is finally official. Rakesh Roshan will be directing beta in the follow-up to the sci-fi flick. And a li’l birdie told us that instead of Preity, it would be Priyanka Chopra who would be cast in the project. This time round daddy Roshan, away in Hong Kong, confirmed the news. He told us, “Yes, that’s right! I wouldn’t call it a sequel to ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, but an extension to that film.” Unfortunately, for kids looking forward to seeing the blinking blue-eyed alien, Jadoo, again, will be disappointed. For the blinking beauty won’t be making an appearance in this one. Rakesh chose to remain tight-lipped about whether some other inter-stellar creatures would be visiting Planet Earth in this one, but he did admit that the ex-Ms World, Priyanka, would be working in the sequel (how much ever Rakesh may want to rephrase it). “Yes, I have confirmed Priyanka for my next film,” is all the director is willing to admit. From what we hear, the clinching factor in Priyanka’s favor was a special screening of Subhash Ghai’s ‘Aitraaz’; Roshan was so impressed by her ‘sexy’ act that he decided there and then that she would be Hrithik’s leading lady on screen this time. With her in the film, and a certain ‘sexed’ up act, the aliens visiting better be ‘adults only’!

KMG sequel: Hrithik is superhero

Rakesh Roshan’s next film, yet untitled, will not feature the lovable alien Jadu. But it will have something equally extraordinary a supranormal Hrithik and thrilling special effects.

The film will star Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Manini De (who plays Chopra’s friend), Rajpal Yadav, Sharat Saxena and Puneet

Issar.

The project, which will cost over Rs 45 crore, will have music by Rajesh Roshan, and will be shot between March and October 2005, in Singapore and India.

It’s a love story, says Roshan. Koi Mil Gaya ended with Jadu imparting special powers to Rohit (Hrithik Roshan).

So what happens after that? Both Hrithik and Preity (Zinta) die. Rohit’s powers are transferred to his son (Hrithik Roshan again). The grandson is brought up by his grandmother

(Rekha).

The film will explore the relationship between the grandmother and her grandson. In Koi Mil Gaya she had dealt with a son who was below normal, now she deals with a grandson who possesses special powers.

Naseeruddin Shah, otherwise known to be a selective actor, is said to have agreed to do the project impressed by the script.I am trying to break away from the routine films and yet give wholesome entertainment.

There are two special aspects in the film the hero’s character, which is very different, and lots of thrills. The film will be expensive because we have to be to on par with Hollywood films. They make films at $ 300 million, while we have do them between $ 6-7 million.”

There will be no spaceships or aliens, the special effects will be more visual, he adds. Even Jadu will not be seen any more in the new film. He will only appear in flashbacks.

Roshan is using the Koi Mil Gaya special effects team comprising Mark Kolbe and Craig Mumma, for the forthcoming venture.

He says, Stunt director, Tony Ching from Hong Kong (The Hero, The Flying Daggers) will work on the thrill sequences.

So what sparked off the idea for a sequel? One night I was watching the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, and thought to myself if they could make three films based on one ring, why not continue where Koi Mil Gaya left off?

And that’s not all. Says the director, If this film is a success I will make a sequel to that too.

Koi Mil Gaya sequel not to star Jadoo

Source: IndiaFM

So it's official by now that Rakesh Roshan will make a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya. Here's some more dope on the film. The film will not feature the mottle-blue extra-terrestrial Jadoo from the first part. Neither will it have any aliens or space ships. Then one might wonder that in what sense can this film be called a Koi Mil Gaya sequel?

Well the only common elements will be Hrithik Roshan, Rekha and special effects. (In fact the director claims that the special effects in this film will supersede the ones in Koi Mil Gaya). Everything else from the cast and story theme will be different. Koi Mil Gaya concluded with Jadoo imparting special powers to Rohit (Hrithik Roshan). In the sequel Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta die and the special powers of Rohit are transferred to his son (again played by Hrithik Roshan). Rekha brings up the child and while the original dealt with the mother-son relationship, the sequel will explore the grandmother-grandson relationship. And while the original showed Hrithik as a mentally under-developed character, the sequel will illustrate Hrithik as a man possessing superpowers.

Priyanka Chopra plays Hrithik's love interest in the film. Others in the cast include Naseeruddin Shah, Manini De, Rajpal Yadav, Sharat Saxena and Puneet Issar. Rajesh Roshan will compose the music of this film that is budgeted at around Rs. 45

crore.

And so charged is Rakesh Roshan with the sequel that he already confesses that if this sequel is a success, he will make another sequel to this sequel. Koi Mil Gaya trilogy, anybody?

Many girls wanted Hrithik!

Many leading ladies, including Kareena Kapoor (we hear even Rani Mukherji) wanted to play the female lead opposite Hrithik Roshan in Rakesh Roshan's next venture. Kareena had a problem with the Roshans on the sets of 'Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai', which she was to do initially. Making matters worse were rumors of her link-up with Hrithik post his marriage. But finally Rakesh felt that Priyanka was suited for the part.

While many continue to have reservations about Rakesh's choice, we'll have to watch the film next year to make a call!

Did you know that Kareena Kapoor was so keen on patching up with the Roshans, that she even sent out feelers to them expressing a desire to be part of the sequel to Koi Mil Gaya? A source close to the actress reveals that Kareena sent a message through some people that she wished to play the leading lady in Rakesh Roshan's film.

Kareena was ready to forget her differences with Roshan senior, just to do a film with Hrithik Roshan. Apparently, Rakesh Roshan was quite apprehensive about signing Kareena on.

Roshan feared that it might rekindle the romance between Hrithik and Kareena. Rakesh Roshan didn't want any more trouble with the Kapoors, and therefore opted for Priyanka Chopra. According to a close source to the Roshans, "The director has still not forgotten about the actress' misbehavior during Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, and the fact that she bad-mouthed the Roshans to many people."

However, Rakesh Roshan retorts, "Not just Kareena, even Rani Mukerji and many other actresses wanted to wanted to star in the film. But I zeroed in on Priyanka because she suited the role."

Hrithik and Kareena Kapoor have done four films together: Yaadein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (K3G), Mujhse Dosti Karoge and Mein Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. Out of these, only K3G scored at the box office.

Like Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan too likes to get into the skin of the character. As for the heroine of the film, Hrithik reportedly is keen on Aishwarya Rai. He wants to rope her in for the film because her international appeal and the fact that she is very popular in the UK. The star cast, he thinks, will give his film a massive boost. Rakesh Roshan's next KRRISH

Source: Manisha Deshpande

Producer-director Rakesh Roshan can be rest assured that his new film KRRISH (the sequel to KOI MIL GAYA) is destined to be a sure fire box-office success, with his distributor and numerologist friend, Niraj Mancchanda, weaving a certain magic in the title. Niraj, who had last distributed KOI MIL GAYA and KAHO NA PYAR HAI, along with his father, Hurssh L Mancchanda, decided to put his vast knowledge of numerology to a good cause, when it came to choosing the title for Rakesh Roshan's film. Recalls Niraj, "Rakesh Roshan came up with three titles and I worked on each of them to set the right numerological equation. He opted for KRISSH and the name suggests that the film will be a hat-trick for the father-son pair." Moreover, Rakesh Roshan has little cause for worry since the Mancchandas also have the West Bengal distribution rights of KRRISH too, and will make every possible effort to ensure that it is a box-office success.
